Laser is our nootropic stack, or combination of ingredients, specially formulated to support several essential brain functions, including concentration, memory and cognitive abilities. How does Laser support brain functioning?
The components in LASER were specifically selected because they may enhance cognition by complementary methods of action. It is the synergy of this stack that promotes superior cognitive performance.
Memory enhancement is a complex process that involves memory formation, consolidation and retrieval. Noopept, one of the active components of LASER, has been clinically shown to support these three critical components of memory. Noopept has been shown to benefit Brain-Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF), one of the most important molecules responsible for short-term and long-term memory persistence, Bacopa, another active component of LASER, also may support memory in both healthy individuals. It also has been shown to increase the production of Tryptophan Hydroxylase, crucial to serotonin production.
Cognitive functioning is dependent on communication between brain cells, known as neurons. Neurons are arranged in neural networks, which are necessary to perform cognitive tasks like sensory processing and problem solving. Neurons “talk” to each other using chemical neurotransmitters. Noopept has been shown to prevent the breakdown of Glutamate, one of the most important neurotransmitters involved in cognitive functioning. Noopept has been shown to potentially increase the availability of neurotransmitters.
Bacopa contains Bacoside-A, which has been shown to enhance the activity of neurotransmitters. Bacopa also has been shown to promote activity of the hippocampus, a powerful modulator of cognitive functioning.
Brain cells, known as neurons, are particularly vulnerable to damage from molecules known as free radicals. Free radicals cause oxidative stress that damage DNA and impair the functioning of cell substructures such as mitochondria. Oxidative damage leads to chronic neurologic decline.
The three Ayurvedic nootropics in the LASER stack have potent antioxidant properties and have been used for centuries for their neuroprotective properties. Bacopa is well known as a “brain tonic” in the Ayurvedic tradition, protecting the brain from decline related to oxidative damage Shankhpushpi has been used in Ayurvedic health to support intellect and memory. It contains microphyllic acid that has been shown to provide antioxidant protection from free radical damage. Jyothismati is also a powerful antioxidant used for centuries to support memory function in Ayurvedic health.
The calming effect of bacopa is well described in the medical literature. It is classified as an adaptogen, a class of supplements that ease anxiety and balance the body’s physiologic response to common internal and external stresses. A key mechanism for attenuating anxiety is bacopa’s actions on the regulation of serotonin, a neurotransmitter responsible for mood. L-Theanine, which rounds out the loaded LASER stack, helps to confer relaxation without any associated sedative effects. As it is an amino acid found in green tea, L-Theanine can help focus and improve attention.
